Gather your pieces: 2 cotton ties, 1 felt, 1 white linen, 1 color linen
Trace the pattern onto your color linen making sure the embroidery is centered in the opening. Do this before pinning the layers together.
Add a mark for the cotton ties.
Place and pin the layers in this order: felt, white linen, color linen.
Cut both sides of the layers down to about 1/4 inch.
IMPORTANT It is important to line up your color linen layer properly. It may be slightly turned compared to your other two layers. Be sure to line up the peaks of the crown correctly to avoid any openings once sewn.
Flip open the top layer and place your cotton ties where you've made a mark. Your ties should line up with the edge of all 3 pieces of fabric.
IMPORTANT Cotton ties should be placed exactly like the photo shown to face the proper way on each crown. Notice how both pieces are facing.
Sew on the traced lines.
Backstitch at the beginning and end of the crown, leaving about a 3 inch opening.
Cut around the crown like the photo shown.
Cut each peak.
Cut two bottom corners.
Cut along the bottom, leaving extra felt/fabric below the opening.
Clip each corner (small sharp scissors are best for this) as close to the stitching as possible without cutting into the stitch. This will result in flat peaks without puckering once you flip the crown.
Flip your crown inside out.
Using a dowel, push each peak through and both bottom corners. The peaks do not need to be too pointy. Just like the photo shown.
Check that all corners are clipped properly. The crown should be flat without puckering.
